A Brief Biography

I am an Associate Professor in the School of Education at the College of William and Mary. I began my career in special education as a teacher of students with learning disabilities; I also worked in clinical settings and served as an educational diagnostician. Previously, I taught at George Washington University in Washington, DC and at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. Before coming to William and Mary, I was a special education technical assistant at the Virginia Department of Education.  My primary research interests are in areas relating to secondary education experiences that contribute to positive transition outcomes for students with disabilities.

Research Interests

  • Transition of youth with disabilities from secondary school to adult life
  • Developing skills of self-awareness, self-advocacy, self-motivation, and self-satisfaction for youth with disabilities
  • Parental involvement with special education
  • Conflict mediation and resolution
  • Leadership development - teachers and administrators
